Be aware of the weather forecast before you begin fishing in an area. Getting caught in a severe storm in open water can be dangerous. It is helpful to carefully go over the weather forecast beforehand. This makes it easier to select a better fishing spot.

Make sure your hook is firmly attached to your line using a clinch knot, so you don’t lose any fish.. All you have to do is slip your line through the eye of the hook and turn the hook five times and then run the end of the line through your fist loop. Tightly pull the end through this loop in order to finish the knot.

Make sure to wet your hands before you pull your fish in to remove the hook. The will ensure that the fish does not end up with dried out skin. Wetting your hands is especially important for catch-and-release fishing, when you should take the most care in returning the fish safely to the water.

Larger Bait

If you are tired of using earthworms, a good progression could be spinnerbait. These types of lures work really well when fishing in shaded areas or in murky water around a dock. While bass are most attracted to spinnerbait, they can also be used to catch crappie.

For catching larger fish, use larger bait. Although larger bait is more costly from most tackle stores, it can result in a larger catch. If you think about it, it does make perfect sense as bigger fish would tend to eat bait that is much larger.

When deep sea fishing, watch for activity from fish. You may run across debris such as wood floating in the water. Frequently, you will see large game fish around that area. One of the signs that large fish may be nearby is seagulls feasting on smaller fish.

Pay attention to the wind while you are fishing. When it becomes windy fishes usually follow the current which results in them ending up on a particular side of a lake. Cast into the wind. If it is extremely windy, then larger fish are most likely to lurk in the depths where they are hard to catch.

Accidentally setting something on fire while fishing is easily possible when fishing from the bank. A lot of people smoke cigarettes as they fish, which is potentially dangerous for starting accidental blazes. The immediate area of the bank is of course wet. The foliage near the bank is quite flammable however.

Be mindful of your bait’s color versus the water’s color. It is very important to choose a bait that can be seen by the fish. If you are fishing in murky water, go for a bright color that stands out. In clearer waters, use darker colors that will not blend in with the surroundings.

If you like to fish, you should always buy good quality rods. High-quality rods are better tested and crafted from better materials than cheap, fragile rods are. It is worth paying a bit more upfront for a quality rod you’ll have forever, rather than replacing cheap rod after cheap rod.
